This is where it starts. The start of blogging and the logging of my career, for the world to follow... in all its possible personal matters and projects of self-exploration and pursuit of a better tomorrow...
So... Where to start, probably with current projects and life right?
Well on top of my school load as an illustration major, I'm trying to dabble in costume and prosthetic creations, and what I've learned so far is that a lot of things can go wrong in a short amount of time.
Flashback: 2 weeks ago. 3 friends and I attempted to cast my head so that I could begin sculpting some prosthetic pieces. Everything was going fine, we were even livestreaming the event. Things were going smoothly as the alginate was applied properly, plaster strips were put on, everything hardened. Then the trouble started. The mold was cut the wrong way and was rendered useless... except for the face... Things I learned: DONT do it in your kitchen, watch videos, follow directions.
Flashback #2: This past week. Attempt #2 to cast my head, this time with people with casting experience. Everyone was excited, psyched even for this mold. But once again, when removing the mold, something happened. My hair had slipped out of the baldcap, and had gotten snagged in the alginate silicone as it was setting. The mold ripped and was rendered useless... again.
So now we fast forward to today. Tonight at 5:15 we will be making one final attempt. If it goes right, I will have to sculpt the face piece and cowl and hands by Wednesday night, because friday we're going to a studio in Columbia to have the parts cured for painting, hair punching and application. All of this, HAS to be finished no later than 5:00pm, October 25.
You may be wondering "Why is this guy still trying to do this?" Simple answer: because I want to do this, and I'm not one to back down in stressful situations. I just really care about this project, and either way, it's a learning experience... but I want to get it right the first time.
I'll keep you up to date step by step, with photos included!
